Granite is the material of choice for machine bases and metrology components for a variety of reasons including:
- Machinability
- Ultimate Flatness
- Does Not Rust
- Long Wearing Properties
- Easy Cleaning
- Many Sizes and Accessories Available
- Can Be Mobile
STANDARDS / HIGH WEAR APPLICATIONS
The granite utilized by Tru-Stone for our standard surface plate products has high quartz content, which provides greater resistance to wear and damage. Our “Charcoal Black” and “Tru-Stone Pink” colors have low water absorption rates, thus minimizing the possibility of your precision gages rusting while setting on the plates. The colors of granite offered by Tru-Stone create less glare resulting in less eyestrain for individuals using the plates. We have chosen our granite types while considering thermal expansion in an effort to keep this aspect minimal. And flatness is an ongoing, improving process as we continue to get closer specifications and higher tolerances.
CUSTOM APPLICATIONS
When your application calls for a plate with custom shapes, threaded inserts, slots or other machining, you’ll want to select a material like Black Diabase. This natural material is similar to granite but offers superior stiffness, vibration dampening and improved machinability.
